The feathers, the sequins, the glitter, the glam!
Fashion in the 70's was bold and exciting; celebrity style icons such as Cher, Debbie Harry, and David Bowie rocked new, funky trends like bell bottom jumpsuits, geometric print shirts, and bedazzled jackets.
But flashy and fabulous wasn't the only style trending in the 70's. Simple silhouettes and clean lines were seen on all kinds of women, from housewives to fashion inspirations, to even the former First Lady!

The photo above is of Jackie Onassis circa 1970. Her simple outfit of a camel trench coat, silk neck scarf, and large framed sunglasses was a sought after look by a lot of women, many of whom saw Jackie as a strong, female icon.
And of course I couldn't forget the "hippie" movement led on by American youths of the 70's. Young men and women rebelled from conventional society standards to instead embrace a carefree spirit toward their style of dress. Lacey peasant tops, shearling jackets, and high-waisted blue jeans were staples of a hippie girl's wardrobe.

To me, Janis Joplin (above) epitomized the boho-hippie style of the 70's, her music along with her style was rockin' and reflected the rebellious attitude of the hippie movement.
70's trends today
Ah, yes, history repeats itself and yet again, clothing stores are stocking their shelves and clothing racks with 70's-inspired fashion. I would be completely lying if I said I wasn't the least bit excited, I love repeating fashion trends and will take any excuse to go to a vintage secondhand shop.
How does one do the style icons of the 70's justice with their own interpretation of the vintage trends? Look at style icons of today!

English singer, Florence Welch's channel's 70's style in many of her outfits, and these printed looks (above) are no exception.
And of course, as music festival season is upon us, many online stores have dedicated a portion of their shops to 70's boho style, which is a common theme for festival-goers. One of my favorite, go-to online shops for 70's- inspired clothing is ASOS Marketplace. Much of this site's clothes are in fact vintage or second hand so many of their clothes are authentic 70's pieces.
