"Women who wear black lead colorful lives." — Neiman Marcus *
A 20-something year old woman walks into a Starbucks wearing a midnight-noir ensemble with matching pumps and handbag to match whilst I'm sitting in the plush armchair in the corner with my caramel frapp thinking, wow, she's a bad ass.
She could be a college student with an ordinary life who opened her closet that morning and reached passed the unfolded laundry and miss-matched socks for the black skinny jeans and leather jacket, her mind on the date she's going on later with that cute guy from psych class. Or she could be the chief editor of a fashion mag who's grabbing a latte before heading off to direct a photo shoot.
Truth is, I have no idea who this woman is or where she is going, or if she even meant to make a statement with her all-black outfit, but the point is, no matter what her intentions were, she still managed to capture my attention.
Black is a beautiful color even if it isn't represented in the rainbow, and I honestly find it to be one of the boldest out of all the colors. Black is fabulous because it goes with anything and can be worn in all seasons (which is why most of the colors in my closet range from dark grey to black to more black.)
Black is also incredibly sexy. It's slimming and makes skin appear to be tanned and glowing, and who doesn't love that?
Wearing an all-black outfit shouldn't be intimidating, and you definitely don't have to feel like you can't "pull it off." Anyone can be bold; everyone deserves to be bold. Though, I feel like wearing black sometimes gets a bad rap because, apparently, as a kid in fifth grade once told me, "only weirdos wear black." But honestly, I think it's good to be a little weird sometimes; sometimes you just gotta channel your inner goth.
